Fuel Injectors Guide
This page provides detailed information about the fuel injectors used in the Honda RC51, including their specifications, connector details, visual references, and technical documentation.
Fuel Injector Description and Ohm Readings
The Honda RC51 (RVT1000R) uses four fuel injectors, two per cylinder (primary and secondary), to deliver precise fuel amounts to the front and rear cylinders. These are high-impedance, top-feed injectors designed for the bike’s V-twin engine. Each injector is a solenoid-operated valve controlled by the ECU, with the primary injector handling base fuel delivery and the secondary injector supplementing at higher RPMs or loads. The injectors are labeled as Injector 1-1 (rear primary), Injector 1-2 (rear secondary), Injector 2-1 (front primary), and Injector 2-2 (front secondary), following the sub-harness labeling convention where the rear cylinder is considered cyl #1.
The resistance (ohm readings) of the injectors is critical for verifying their functionality. Using a multimeter across the injector terminals, the expected readings are:
Injector | Resistance (Ohms) | Notes |
---|---|---|
All Injectors | 12.0–12.5 Ω | Measure at room temperature (approx. 20°C). |
If readings fall outside this range, the injector may be faulty and should be inspected for clogs or electrical issues. Always disconnect the injector connector before testing to avoid ECU damage.
Being high-impedance injectors, an injector driver is not required, and the FT ECU can handle the injectors by itself.
Connector Data
The fuel injectors on the Honda RC51 use 2-pin connectors integrated into the fuel injector sub-harness. See the table below for specific injector and connector type information:
Property | Details |
---|---|
Connector Type | Sumitomo 6195-0003 | 6195-004X |
Pin Configuration | Pin A: ECU Output - Signal Ground, Pin B: +12V (switched) |
Wire Gauge | 22 AWG (for individual injector) |
Note: Polarity is not critical for the injectors, as they are simple solenoids, but always verify pin assignments with the RC51 service manual to ensure proper connection to the sub-harness. See the FI Sub-Harness page for a wiring diagram. Also, the gauge for the injectors (22 AWG) is okay for the splices from the main +12V line. Again, see the FI sub-harness page for more information.
For the connector, Sumitomo changed the design a bit since Honda used these connectors on this bike; thus, they look a tad different, and the part numbers are slightly different due to the different revisions. You are looking for the Sumitomo connector DL sealed series (090). This part number should be 6195-XXXX. Generally, 6195-0003 or 6195-004X. Always verify the connector with the images from the supplier you are purchasing from. 6195-0041 is this connector with the anti-rotation pins on the bottom. These pins are not needed, and as long as you get a connector with 6195-XXXX, you should be okay.
Sourcing the Injector Connector
You can source the connector for the four injectors from the following locations:
You can find a bit more specifications about the connector here.Flow Testing the Injectors
I sent my injectors in to get them cleaned and flow tested. Based on the results, they were not really dirty, but I did get valuable information about the OEM injectors. If you are interested in getting your injectors cleaned and flow tested, I recommend Fuel Injector Clinic, which is who I used. A nice thing about this company is they replaced all of the seals, filter baskets, and the cushioning rings, which is included in the price of their service. This alone makes the service a pretty good value, considering the cost of buying those seals themselves individually. Below, you can see the results of the flow test before and after cleaning, as well as the Data Match technology that they perform, which could be useful information.
As you can see, the OEM Denso injectors are 300cc/min injectors, which is needed for the ECU.Images of the Injectors
